Kamienica Celejowska

This illustration presents Kamienica Celejowska – a true gem of Renaissance bourgeois architecture in Poland. This highly representative building, erected before 1635 for the wealthy merchant Bartłomiej Celej, combines local building traditions with Italian and Dutch influences. The monumental attic makes a strong impression – considered one of the most beautiful in the country. It features three gables with arched niches containing bas-reliefs of Christ, the Virgin Mary, and Saints Bartholomew and John the Baptist. Fantastical griffins, grotesques, and mythical creatures complete this unique composition. After significant damage, the building was restored in the 1920s under the direction of Jan Koszczyc-Witkiewicz, becoming a symbol of the revival of old Kazimierz Dolny.
