This illustration shows the “Duża (big) PAST-a,” the taller of the two historic PAST-a buildings on 39 Zielna Street in Warsaw. Constructed between 1908 and 1910, it was designed by Izaak Gustaw Clason in collaboration with Bronisław Brochwicz-Rogoyski. At the time of its completion, it was the tallest building in Europe, measuring 51.5 meters with eight floors. The design was inspired by American skyscrapers, featuring a reinforced concrete structure and a distinctive form reminiscent of a medieval tower.

The name PAST-a comes from the first letters of Polska Akcyjna Spółka Telefoniczna (Polish Telephone Joint-Stock Company) which became the owner of the building after 1922.

During the 1944 Warsaw Uprising, “Duża PAST-a” was the site of some of the fiercest battles in the city center, and its capture marked one of the greatest successes of the Polish insurgents.

Today, the restored building stands as a symbol of Warsaw’s technical progress, architectural daring, and indomitable spirit
