Zamek w Baranowie Sandomierskim

This unique illustration depicts the Zamek w Baranowie Sandomierskim – often referred to as the “Little Wawel” – located in the heart of the Podkarpacie region, on the banks of the Vistula River. The castle was built in the second half of the 16th century on the initiative of Rafał Leszczyński, on the site of an earlier Gothic defensive manor belonging to the Baranowski family. The project was entrusted to the renowned Italian architect Santi Gucci, court artist to King Stephen Báthory and Queen Anna Jagiellon. Thanks to him, the building showcases a harmonious blend of Italian Renaissance and Polish noble residence traditions. The front elevation, faithfully rendered in this illustration, impresses with its fine details – from elegant arcades and balustrades, to cloisters and distinctive cylindrical towers.
