Wilanów Palace

The Museum of King Jan III’s Palace at Wilanów

This illustration captures the Baroque silhouette of Wilanów Palace, one of Poland’s most precious royal residences. The main building was erected between 1681 and 1696 for King Jan III Sobieski and Marie Casimire, designed by the architect Augustyn Wincenty Locci. Its current monumental form was completed with the addition of the side wings between 1723 and 1729.

A monument to the glory of the Sobieski dynasty, the palace is a unique blend of a traditional Polish magnate’s residence, an Italian country villa, and a French palace of the entre cour et jardin type.

The architecture is the epitome of mature Baroque. The façade features elaborate sculptural decorations that, through numerous allegories and symbols, reference antiquity and the King’s military triumphs. The central block, with its distinctive garden gallery and towers topped with ornate spires, creates a harmonious, horizontal composition of exceptional lightness.

As one of the few landmarks in Warsaw to have survived partitions and wars in almost unchanged form, Wilanów is today not just a museum, but above all a testament to the power of the early modern Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the sophisticated artistic taste of the Baroque era.

This minimalist illustration focuses on the symmetry and rhythm of the façade, highlighting the elegance of the architectural details in the residence created by Locci for the most famous royal couple in Polish history.

Why choose this illustration?

A tribute to tradition: it represents one of the most valuable surviving wooden manor houses in Poland, deeply rooted in the history of the Mazovia region.
An icon of the Polish manor style: its balanced form, shingled roof, and columned porch make it a textbook example of noble estate architecture.
Timeless aesthetic: the minimalist illustration fits perfectly into both modern and classic interiors, adding warmth and character.
A perfect gift: ideal for enthusiasts of history, architecture, Polish manor traditions, or Mazovian landscapes.
